Feeling steady this time. Fewer appointments than the retrieval, more waiting. I am keeping the evenings quiet and trying to be kind to myself on the anxious days.

Steps (6)

  1. Cycle day 1 call to the clinic

    Called first thing. Nurse confirmed the transfer cycle and told me to start my tablets as written on my calendar.

  2. Started my medications

    Tablets morning and evening. Set phone reminders and put a sticky note on the bathroom mirror.

  3. Teaching visit for progesterone injections

    Nurse showed us the spot and the technique. My partner practiced twice. Asked what to do if I miss a dose and wrote down her answer.

  4. Monitoring visit

    Ultrasound and bloodwork, ten minutes. The nurse said Dr. Rivera would review and call this afternoon. She did, and confirmed we are moving ahead.

  5. Called the pharmacy about the second vial

    They said it ships in two days. Asked about no-signature delivery.

  6. Transfer day (booked)

    Arrive early, full bladder per the instructions sheet. Partner is taking the day off. Bring the folder and a warm sweater.

IVF round 1, retrieval

IVF Status: Finished 46 days

Our first full IVF round. A lot of appointments in a short stretch, and I am proud of us for keeping every one. We ended with embryos frozen for a later transfer. Dr. Rivera walked us through the numbers and I wrote her words down right after so I would not mix them up later.

Steps (8)

  1. Treatment calendar and teaching visit

    Nurse showed us how to do the injections on a practice pad. Got a printed calendar and taped it to the fridge.

  2. Started injections

    Evening injections, same time each night, as written on my calendar. First one was fine, I braced for nothing.

  3. Monitoring visit 1

    Ultrasound and bloodwork. The nurse told me they would adjust based on what they saw and call me with any change.

  4. Monitoring visit 2

    Longer wait at the clinic than usual. Brought a book. Call came at 3pm with my plan for the next two days.

  5. Trigger shot

    Timed to the minute, set two alarms. Partner gave it. We ordered pizza after.

  6. Egg retrieval

    Sedation, then I woke up in recovery with crackers and juice. Doctor told my partner how many they retrieved. Sore and sleepy the rest of the day.

  7. Update call from the lab

    Nurse called with the update on how many were fertilized. I wrote down what she said and asked her to repeat the last part.

  8. Follow-up visit with Dr. Rivera

    We talked about freezing what we have and planning a transfer in a later month. Left with a list of questions for insurance.

IUI round 1

Our first try, and the gentlest one. I kept telling myself it was just practice for how the clinic works. The waiting at the end was harder than any of the appointments. This one did not work, and we took a month to breathe before talking about what came next.

  2. Baseline ultrasound and bloodwork

    Quick visit, about twenty minutes. Nurse said she would call by the afternoon, and she did.

  3. Monitoring ultrasound

    Dr. Rivera said we were on the schedule she expected. I wrote down the trigger shot time three times.

  4. Trigger shot

    Partner gave the shot at 9:30pm. I was more nervous than he was. Alarm set so we would not forget.

  5. Insemination

    Ten minutes, then I rested. It felt oddly ordinary. Cried in the car, not sure why.

  6. Blood test and the call

    Not this time. The nurse was kind and said we could talk options at our follow-up visit. Took the afternoon off.
